There are many reasons for one to feel anxious before surgery. The after-effects of the surgery like pain, secondary infections or illness, surgical mistakes, post-surgery scars, disfigurement, losing mobility or independence, adverse lifestyle impact and long recovery are the reasons.

Although there is not much research on strategies of managing pre-surgery anxiety, some evidence suggests that measures given below can help reduce surgical anxiety.

- 2. Discuss with the surgeon about the post-surgery difficulties
- 3. Family and friends can help patients to divert their thoughts and talk about things which they like
- 4. Listen to light music
- 5. Read books
- 6. Therapies - yoga, acupuncture, massage, and meditation
